What to Expect: Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Preparation Session

Overview

Preparation sessions are designed to help you enter your psychedelic experience feeling grounded, informed, and deeply supported. These sessions lay the foundation of safety, trust, and intention — preparing both your mind and body to engage fully in the process of healing and self-discovery.

Through a somatic-relational approach, we explore your emotional, physical, and relational patterns to help you connect with your inner world before the journey begins. This involves working with both the right hemisphere (creative, emotional, intuitive) and the left hemisphere (verbal, logical, analytical), allowing preparation to happen through both felt experience and reflective understanding.

What to Expect

1. Building Safety and Connection
We begin by creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship — the foundation of all transformative work. You will have space to share your story, ask questions, and identify what safety means for you. Together, we will discuss boundaries, consent, and emotional safety, while establishing somatic resources to help you stay grounded and connected throughout the process.

2. Intention Setting and Emotional Preparation
We will explore your motivations, hopes, and areas for healing or clarity, transforming expectations into intentions that serve as gentle anchors during your experience. This process engages both hemispheres — using language and reflection to clarify meaning, while connecting to intuition, sensation, and emotion to embody your intentions.

3. Somatic-Relational Exploration
Preparation includes connecting with the body as a source of wisdom. Through somatic awareness, relational attunement, and grounding practices, you will learn how to notice and regulate sensations, emotions, and patterns that may arise during the psychedelic experience. This helps your nervous system prepare for openness, vulnerability, and release within a context of safety and connection.

4. Education and Process Orientation
We will review what the psychedelic process may look like, including the stages of experience, how mindset (“set”) and environment (“setting”) influence the process, and what it means to “trust and allow.” You will learn practical tools such as breathwork, mindfulness, and body awareness to support surrender and presence during your session.

5. Practical and Logistical Planning
We will discuss session logistics — including setting, comfort, sensory preferences, and what to expect before and after your journey. You will receive optional reflection and embodiment exercises to help you feel centered and ready for your experience.

Why Preparation Matters

Preparation helps you move from “thinking about the experience” to feeling ready for it — engaging your whole system: body, mind, and heart. It balances the right brain’s emotional, relational, and intuitive processing with the left brain’s structure, clarity, and understanding, ensuring your experience is approached with both openness and grounding.

Through this somatic-relational, whole-brain approach, you will cultivate safety, curiosity, and self-trust — the foundations that allow your psychedelic journey to unfold with depth and meaning.

Preparation is the beginning of transformation.
