EMDR Therapy

Healing the mind and body from the inside out

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds) to activate the brain’s natural healing processes. This allows individuals to reprocess difficult memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge and creates a new, more adaptive understanding of the experience.

EMDR can be highly effective for people of all ages and is used to treat a wide range of issues, including:

·         Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

·         Anxiety and panic attacks

·         Depression and low self-worth

·         Phobias and fears

·         Chronic Stress

·         Sleep difficulties and nightmares

·         Grief and loss

·         Abuse and trauma (emotional, physical, sexual)

·         Motor vehicle accidents (MVAs)

·         Medical Trauma

·         Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

·         Trichotillomania and body-focused repetitive behaviours

·         Chronic pain and phantom limb pain

The goal of EMDR is not to erase memories, but to help the brain integrate them in a way that no longer causes distress. EMDR therapy helps the brain reprocess and “re-store” distressing memories so that they no longer cause emotional reactivity or interfere with daily life. By shifting how these memories are stored in the brain, individuals often experience significant relief from symptoms and greater emotional freedom. After successful EMDR treatment, individuals often report feeling calmer, more in control, and less reactive to past triggers. The

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy. EMDR is particularly effective for people who feel “stuck” in the past or continue to experience the emotional impact of difficult memories.

What to Expect

EMDR therapy begins with a comprehensive assessment and a strong focus on building safety and emotional regulation skills. Once you are ready, your therapist will guide you through the reprocessing phase, where you will focus on specific memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation. This process is done at your pace, with ongoing support to ensure it feels manageable and empowering.

EMDR for Children and Youth

EMDR is also highly effective with children and teens. Sessions are adapted to be developmentally appropriate and often incorporate play, art, or storytelling. This can be especially helpful for young clients who may not have the words to fully express what they have experienced. EMDR can support children in healing from trauma, reducing anxiety, and building a stronger sense of safety and confidence.
